HPKCHC : March Classes (W16) - Throwback

Time to catch up on all the stuff I've been into!  Here's what happened in March:

Ancient Runes

Can't get enough of those cuttlefish!

Architecture

Love trying new things; these make nice dishcloths.

Arithmancy

It was all about Pi Day (3.1415...).

Astronomy

For Roger; done in the colors of the Mages' Guild in Shadowmoor.
I want to work with this pattern some more and develop other
color combinations in other fandoms...as a fair warning!

Charms

I totally bling'd up a bracelet for this one;
craft sales will be the death of me and all my paychecks!

Divination

I tried again to dye ombre yarn (again, not very successfully),
but I did get to try using Easter Egg dye combined with food coloring!
My one complaint: not very colorfast.

Muggle Studies

A commission for my aunt's friend in California.

Transfiguration

Another mandrake for a friend attending a Harry Potter LARP in July!

Detention

And the other of the pair was turned in, in my
continuing attempt to submit something for every prompt!

Coming up: Quidditch XXIII!  Craft on!

HPKCHC : February Classes (W16)

Another fabulous month full of much crafting!  I submitted all eight classes once more:

Ancient Runes

From the 'Marmalade Ombre' yarn last month!

Architecture

For my coworker and her tiny little newborn.

Arithmancy

For my brother and sister-in-law for their expected first daughter.

Astronomy

For a commission, to decorate a baby's nursery.
A fellow 'Cupper messaged to see if I would take a commission from her friend;
it was a delightful experience and I was so excited to have been asked!

Charms

The other half of the baby's nursery commission: mandrakes!
I've already made two others for new commissions!

Divination

I decided to try making my first cotton washcloth; I love it!

Muggle Studies

A commission for my cousin, who was in the Air Force.
My first time using anything with alpaca in it!

Transfiguration

Again, my personal favorite from this month!
Obviously, for Deevius since the other one was for DSCA.
Elladan's twin brother, Elrohir; their story of reunification was adorbz.

For reference, here's the picture from the game of where the twins are actually standing, and where I took my screenshots:

April was kind enough to recreate it for me with the plushie guys!

I actually made up a puzzle for DSCA and Deevius to solve in the game, using names of the NPCs such as Radagast the Brown to fill in missing letters of the clue at the end.  Deevius logged in and did all the driving, while DSCA decoded the message.  Their journey took them from the Shire, all the way to Thorenhad (where the sons of Elrond are pictured above) and used Elladan and Elrohir's names for the last few letters.

And then I whipped out two plushie elf-sized packages from behind my back and tried to hold in my squees of delight!  Best Christmas gift ever!

But back to the HPKCHC...

In addition, I also was asked to help out as a volunteer for Hogsmeade Weekend!  I was a hostess over in Bons Temps, the speakeasy.  I even helped out and made out special robes for the occasion:

We had a fun weekend!  And of course I was busy crafting and planning for the final month of the term...

But until March is over, I'll be furiously making all the things!  Be back with you all in a little while!

Craft on!

HPKCHC : January Classes (W16)

A new term at Hogwarts approached with the new year!

Once more, I applied to be a student in the Harry Potter Knitting and Crochet House Cup.  I resorted (again) into Hufflepuff, and persuaded my BFF April (CookinKat) to do it with me!

My goal this term is to achieve the goal I failed at last term: turn in something for every prompt!  This includes an OWL, a BROOM, all 24 classes, every Quidditch match, plus the Headmistress' Challenge.

So here we go!  January ahoy!

The classes this term were:

Ancient Runes

Lots of baby gifts for friends and relatives this month!

Architecture

I included a lovely story about Middle-earth with these,
using screenshots from the Lord of the Rings Online!

Arithmancy

I love this little free pattern; great for yarn scraps!

Astronomy

I got to partner up with the Hufflepuff Head of House for this one!
We had a fun little story!

Charms

For a coworker; she had her first baby a month early!

Divination

My first attempt at ombre yarn; not quite a success.

Muggle Studies

Hands-down my favorite project from this month!

It was nominated for a trophy, and won a prize over in the Shire Games, too!

This was the secret gift for DSCA (you may remember I totally crocheted her a decoy hat for Christmas) that I couldn't give her until Deevius was also present.  We had to have a girlz Christmas, which would not be managed until late February.

I'll do a separate post for these!  But one more pic spam first, because I totally copied Elladan from The Lord of the Rings Online!

And all because DSCA kept a pair of his pants...

Transfiguration

My very first CAL (Crochet-a-Long!)
My favorite bit is the pompom.

And of course I'll save the usual Quidditch round-up for the end of the term...

Next time: February classes!  (They just got done grading them.)

Craft on!

Ancient Runes

Just a short post this morning!

You may recall the pattern I did for the Ollivander's Wand; well thanks to the help of some of the other Cuppers, I was able to submit it for the Ancient Runes class.

The prompt:

Craft something to represent a torch or beacon. You might craft in the colors of flame or you might ignite your passion by crafting something you love or that represents the love you feel for another.

My entry:

Good morning professors! In our crafting lives, a large part of what we do is driven by patterns. They guide us to the desired conclusion of finished projects, whether they be wearable, huggable, or simply aesthetically pleasing.
To that end, for Hogsmeade weekend I designed and wrote a pattern up for the great Mr. Ollivander himself: a wand pattern. I have made it free for everyone to enjoy, and hope it will be a beacon to those desiring to one day craft their own wands in the future.
In addition, of course, a simple Lumos spell will provide light…once I have studied enough about it and mastered the incantation. As a NQFY student, I still struggle with even the most basic of spells.
Thank you for your time, professors!

 Here's the badge earned:

I'll try to run through the other projects I did for the month, as I have (of course!) begun a new month both at Hogwarts, and the Starfleet Fiber Arts Corps.!

Craft on, fellow nerdlings!
